What is happening on U.S. 331?
The main focus of work is widening the highway to four lanes from the U.S.98 intersection to the southern end of the Clyde B. Wells Bridge across Choctawhatchee Bay. The project also includes safety and drainage improvements, new sidewalks, bicycle lanes and aesthetic improvements.
How much will the project cost and who is paying for it?
The construction cost for the U.S. 331 improvement project is approximately $12 million. The project is being funded by the Florida Department of Transportation.
How long will it take to complete the project?
Work began in August 2008 and the project is scheduled for completion in early 2010.
Will there be any traffic impacts during construction work?
Yes. Drivers may encounter lane shifts and periodic lane restrictions during the construction work. FDOT and its’ consultants will endeavor to limit traffic impacts whenever possible. Refer to this Web site for the latest information on traffic impacts.
Why can’t FDOT perform these projects at night and not impact traffic?
Some of the work will be performed at night. In addition, lane closures within 500 feet of the U.S. 98/U.S. 331 intersection will take place between the 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. These measures will help to minimize traffic impacts during times of peak travel demand.
I have a business along U.S. 331. Will I be able to get in and out of my driveway? Will my customers be able to get into my parking lot?
Access to private property will be maintained at all times. Properties with multiple entrances will have a minimum of one entrance open at all times.
Who is responsible for performing the work?
The construction project is administered by the Florida Department of Transportation, District Three. Genesis CE&I Services, Inc. of Crestview is providing construction engineering and inspection services for FDOT. The construction contractor is C.W. Roberts Contracting of Hosford, Fla.
